The pictures on the Engineer page were taken during the sessions from this song.  Walter Clevenger and his bandmates (the Dairy Kings) came in to provide acoustic bass, guitars and stripped-down drums (kick and hi-hat with tamb),  Joining them were Jamie Hoover on mandolin and Terry on guitar.  After mixing the song, terry and Jack decided that it was missing something, so they called in Caitlin Carey to sing and play fiddle. All instruments were recorded direct, in a room with 3 mics capturing the room sound; all instruments were recorded together (except for the fiddle), and the blend of direct and room is stunning!  The vocals were old-school, with everybody crowded around a single Neumann U87 through a Manley compressor.  I rounded out the vocals with the bass/baritone line. Adding Caitlin later was a blast, as I got to get creative with the "placement" of the other instruments to make it sound as if she was there during the first session.
